In the ongoing effort to protect patient information from hackers, malware, and other external cybersecurity threats, hospitals and healthcare systems too often overlook the vulnerabilities inherent in their current printer hardware and printing practices.

Attracting and retaining top talent is becoming a bigger challenge. 27% of employees voluntarily left their jobs in 2018, looking for better opportunities elsewhere. If this trend continues, by 2023 this percentage will reach 35% putting US companies at a huge risk that will only continue to rise. The cost of unfilled jobs varies, but on average a vacant seat at a company costs around $14,652 to fill, but there are also the unseen costs—like decreased productivity, increased workload for other employees, and suffering morale.

No business is completely safe from the dangers of unforeseen circumstances disrupting its day-to-day operations. A 2017 survey of cybersecurity professionals found that 67 percent of respondents believed a major security breach was “somewhat likely,” “highly likely,” or all but guaranteed at their organization within the following year.

If you’re new to the world of unified communications, or managed voice, learning the different components can be a bit daunting. Just keeping the acronyms involved in these new phone systems straight can be confusing. Take SBC, for example. SBC is an acronym for Session Border Controller—a network element deployed to protect SIP based VoIPs. SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is another acronym for a signaling protocol that initiates, maintains, and terminates voice, video, and messaging applications—all functions usually included in VoIP services. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, which essentially is voice and related services over the internet. It’s coming up on cold and flu season, and many of us are lining up to get preventive maintenance: a flu shot. Preventive maintenance is how most things are maintained and serviced—from human bodies to household appliances. In anticipation of mechanical parts breaking or needing repairs, we schedule service. Oil changes, annual HVAC assessments, and annual wellness exams are all examples of preventative maintenance. We hope that periodically checking the status of a piece of equipment will alert us to upcoming failure, reducing the amount of equipment downtime and the cost of repairs.
