In Case You Missed Us: Being a Critical Consumer on Tech Talk with KTRS

Written by Jaclyn Sindel | Apr 18, 2018 6:30:00 PM

Last week on Tech Talk presented by SumnerOne we welcomed back our expert, Steve Heinle, to The Big 550 KTRS. Steve joined Guy Phillips to talk about what it means to be a critical consumer. Being a critical consumer is a good thing to be in many different areas of life. However, being a critical consumer online can help to protect yourself in areas including financials, personal identity, and much more.

Becoming a Critical Consumers

Steve's definition of a critical consumer hit the nail on the head: A critical consumer is someone that is aware of their online surroundings and understands where their information is going. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being critical about investigating the websites that you share your information with. In fact, it's the smart thing to do.

One tip that Steve happened to mention went beyond online safety. Guy Phillips mentioned that he uses an RFID wallet, which sparked an interesting conversation about the benefits of using one. Radio frequency identification (RFID) wallets have a magnetic strip inside the material that helps in the event that someone tries to swipe information off of your cards. Being a critical consumer goes far beyond online practices, it also includes protecting your physical information like credit cards, keys, and more.

Tech Talk has become a great way to educate others about online safety, data security, and overall best practices. We enjoy the opportunity to share our knowledge each Friday afternoon at 4:20 on KTRS! Just in case you missed us last week, we have the full video below.

Be sure to join in this Friday afternoon at 4:20 to listen to our Expert talk all things technology with Guy Phillips on The Big 550 KTRS or listen online.
